Taco Fiasco

I normally don't like to give harsh reviews knowing that the restaurant industry can be really harsh and not easy to handle but when it came to the new place Taco Fresco in Bandra, I was not happy at all.

Firstly we were greeted very well and welcomed to the wonderful place which built my expectations all the more since I did truly feel that Bombay needed a really fun and casual Mexican food joint desperately. The place was a disorganized commotion and I was a little grouchy when we were promised a seat in the Air conditioned area as soon as someone left but that seat was given to someone else who just walked in right after us. There was no service in terms of offering water and we were stranded with four steel bowls consisting of 3 varied shades of watery red "sauce" or salsa and one green one with some chips that were clearly fried a long time ago and left to become soft in the warm night air.

I do know that a person running a restaurant on opening night would be a little stressed but it unfortunately seemed like the girl was also handed a very raw deal with incompetent staff leaving her in a tizzy of handing out instructions as well as trying to serve the customers herself. I must say I could withstand the slow service and the passing over of the table to someone else if the food made it worth the while.

Alas! I was truly disappointed with the insipid food starting from the guacamole having no salt or lemon juice to the extremely bland array of dishes that trickled onto our table. I am truly not a fussy person and eats almost everything without much fuss but even in my deliriously hungry state (after a full gym workout in preparation for the large meal ahead) I refused to eat most of the food. The Chimichangas I would skip completely, the Shrimp Tacos had so much bland cheese it was absolutely bereft of taste, the Chicken Nachos were palatable after putting a whole combination of the salsas in them to bring in some flavour and the Chicken Wings was the only dish which I could give some credibility to in terms of taste but then again they were fried and I tend to love most fried foods.

I do hope and wish that this was only because it was opening night at Taco fresco and that things will change and improve a lot more as I would love to have a casual Mexican restaurant in Bombay soon.
